Keyword Research SEO Tool

There are several excellent keyword research SEO tools available for SEO professionals to do SEO research, and many of them are available to you.

To help the search engines bring your web pages to your target audience, it is important to research and find out what keywords people are using when they search for your tiype of business.

Here are three critical steps in finding interested customers for you website business:

  1. Research a potential universe of relevant keywords for your site, with the tools referred to below.
  2. Evaluate and Select the best SEO keywords for your site concept.
  3. Incorporate your chosen SEO keywords into your web site content.
Each of the tools mentioned below has different advantages. Use them together for best results.

When you enter a keyword into one of the selection tools, depending on which tool you are using, you will receive either a list of keywords containing the ”seed” word you entered, or a list of synonyms  - a list of keywords similar to your original keyword. You will also see an indication - either a number or a graph - showing how often searchers use these exact keywords. These lists give you valuable insights into which keywords will be most profitable for you to use.

Google provides a free keyword research SEO tool on their website

It is called the Google Adwords Keyword Tool. They provide this tool to help you develop a Pay Per Click (ppc adwords) campaign. You can also use it to find good potential keywords for your website content. The advantage of this tool is that it gives a lot of potential keywords. You put in your website URL into their tool, and they generate a lot of potential keywords. The disadvantage is that the tool gives the keyword traffic results in bar graphs, not numbers. You can also enter individual keywords, and Google will return synonyms and other potentially related keywords. Google has excellent instructions on their website for using both aspects of this tool.

A Second Tool for SEO Keyword Research is Overture’s Keyword Selector Tool

Overture was bought by Yahoo. It bases its results on Yahoo’s database. The keyword Selector Tool is still available on the Overture Site. It doesn't always seem to be functional, but when it does, this is how it works: When you put in a “seed” word, it will return to you many keywords that have that one word in it.

For example, the seed word “Insurance” could return Term insurance, Life insurance, Disability insurance, homeowners insurance, etc. And it can get as detailed as “Group Disability Insurance in Michigan.” Select the keywords that are most appropriate for your business.

Then look for the appropriate keywords that also have high demand. For each keyword returned you get the frequency of hits, or “keyword traffic,” or demand for that keyword as measured by Yahoo’s Search Engine. Keywords that are relevant for your business and have high frequency demand can be very valuable in attracting targeted visitors to your website.

(Note that Google’s traffic is approximately three times as much as Yahoo’s. So the combined traffic for Yahoo and Google for any keyword entered in the Overture Selector Tool will be approximately four times the number given by Overture.)

A third keyword research SEO tool is Word Tracker Free Keyword Suggestion Tool.

There is a free version and a subscription version. The free version is valuable for doing a lot of quick basic research and is easy to use. The paid version gives a lot more information. There’s more to learn to use the paid version well. The paid version is highly useful for doing professional SEO work.

The Word Tracker free tool works on a seed word concept similar to Overture. It draws from a smaller data base than Overture does, so it's numbers will be smaller than Overture. But it is still possible to see which relevant key words have the most traffic potential for your website. And since the Overture tool is not always available on-line, it is very useful to know about Word Tracker for in-depth research.

Often people will enter a potential keyword into the Google adwords tool. Then they take some of the best possible words and enter them into Overture, or Word Tracker. You go back and forth between the tools to find even more synonyms and related words. Then you have to narrow down the possible keywords to the most appropriate ones for your site.

Conclusion

Using these keyword tools can give you a preliminary idea of keywords relevant for your website. You may wish to then use a professional SEO firm to do in-depth research and determine the best potential keywords for your website.  Ideally these will be SEO keywords which are relevant to your business and have high frequency demand and low competition from other websites.

The righe SEO key words can dramatically enhance website optimization and web site content. The third major component in Search Engine Optimization is Linking Strategies. Successful linking strategies tell the web site crawlers, or spiders, that your site is considered important by many people, and it should therefore be ranked high.
